A BSF Ecosystem Is More Than Multiple Sites
BSF production does not become an ecosystem merely because it operates at multiple sites.
01 · Geography
Geography is one design choice
Geography is only one design choice. Specialisation begins when the interfaces between operators become explicit.
A local rearing operator may not need to reproduce the entire value chain under one roof. It could work with specialists in:
- → breeding and neonate supply
- → post-processing and drying
- → logistics and offtake
- → monitoring and operations support
02 · Interfaces
Every interface needs an owner
But dividing the work is not the same as making the system work.
Each interface needs an owner, an acceptance specification and a commercial basis.
What quality must the next operator receive?
Who verifies it?
What happens when a batch misses the specification?
Which volume and price commitments justify dedicated capacity?
Without those answers, “ecosystem” is just a diagram with extra dependencies.
03 · The case
Specialisation still has to be tested
With them, specialisation may reduce duplicated capability and let each participant focus on a narrower operating problem. It may also add logistics and coordination costs, so the case still has to be tested rather than assumed.
04 · The question
From one company to dependable hand-offs
This changes the early project question from:
“How much of the chain can we put inside one company?”
to:
“Which interfaces can specialists execute better—and what evidence makes the hand-off dependable?”
05 · Manna's role
The architecture Manna examines
That is the architecture Manna examines when shaping new BSF ventures: explicit partner roles, codified operating knowledge and technology that can support the system across locations.
Which interface creates the most duplicated cost or operating friction in your case?
