Use Case #6: R&D unit, adjacent controlled-environment service

Earlier this week Manna described the expertise, training and network behind its technical solutions. Here is what that human layer looks like in practice.

01 · The setup

An advisory entry point

Not every Manna customer wants to build a BSF factory.

Some already run sophisticated controlled environments — HVAC systems, environmental controls, agtech — and want to add a new service line, with insect bioconversion as one option among several. For them the entry point isn't a turnkey plant. It's advisory, and a single instrumented module.

02 · The case

A services operator in the Middle East

A representative case: a services operator in the Middle East with deep controlled-environment engineering, but no BSF biology and no experience scoping a BSF case. What they have is technical capability. What they're missing is the biology, the recipes, and the judgement about which applications are worth pursuing.

03 · The delivery

Advisory-led, not a turnkey build

So the engagement is advisory-led — the human layer, not a turnkey build. Manna's main delivery here isn't construction. It's:

  • A Fast Track validation up front: is there a real case here, before anyone commits.
  • General consultancy through the R&D phase: recipes, process questions, troubleshooting as they come up.
  • Remote support, so the operator's own engineers run the day-to-day.

04 · The platform

One MIND-powered module

The platform underneath is a single MIND-powered module with a custom sensor set — configured for experimentation, not production volume. Because the operator already speaks the language of sensors and climate control, MIND fits how they already work; what Manna adds is the BSF-specific layer on top, and the advisory to use it well.

The point of the module isn't tonnes processed. It's to develop a controlled-environment service the operator can offer their own customers — with BSF as one validated application among several.

05 · The takeaway

Starting with a question

This is what advisory-led entry looks like: not everyone starts with a facility. Some start with a question, one module, and an advisor — and decide where to go from there.

If you have the controlled-environment engineering but not the BSF biology, that gap is exactly what the advisory layer is for.
