BSF Business Case Service

Most BSF projects that fail don't fail on the biology. They fail on a business case nobody pressure-tested — built on a substrate price, a product price, and a disposal cost that turned out to be wishful.

01 · The service

Catch it before CAPEX

Manna's BSF Business Case Service exists to catch that before a customer spends a cent on CAPEX.

It is an enhanced consultancy: Manna's BSF Analyzer — 90+ country datasets, multiple substrates, multiple product paths — combined with eight years of operating reality from 75+ deployments. Manna models the specific case (the customer's country, substrate, scale, and target market), stress-tests it across base, conservative and break-even scenarios, and returns an honest go / no-go.

02 · The number

One number decides

The whole evaluation reduces to one number: the bioconversion cost per ton of biowaste. What it costs to make one ton of the customer's waste disappear, after everything the larvae and frass can be monetized for, netted against what they pay to dispose of that ton today. It can be negative. The rule is simple — at or below their current disposal cost, BSF is the right tool; above it, Manna says so and the case is walked.

03 · Real inputs

Two inputs that must be real

And that number is only as honest as two real inputs, which is where most desk studies quietly cheat. Manna validates both with the actual producer, not with regional averages:

  • Their real disposal cost today, from their own invoices. That is the baseline BSF has to beat.
  • Confirmed local buyers for the larvae and frass at real prices. A name and a price, not a market index.

04 · The deliverable

The document a CFO signs

The customer doesn't just get a verdict. They get a producer-side ROI one-pager — current disposal spend versus the proposed offer, net savings at years 1, 3 and 5 — the document a CFO actually signs off on.

05 · The verdict

The honest answer

Most cases don't pass. By design, roughly nine in ten come back as no, or as yes-only-under-these-conditions. That is the point of the service: the value is the honest answer, not a green light.

06 · Independence

Not tied to Manna hardware

The analysis is also hardware- and solution-agnostic. Manna isn't scoring the case to sell its own modules — it models what genuinely works for that waste, that location, that scale. And with eight years and a deep network across the BSF supply chain behind it, Manna is glad to point customers to the best-fit suppliers for their case and location, wherever the numbers lead.

07 · The output

The deliverables

What the customer walks away with:

  • The minimum viable gate fee for their waste stream.
  • A realistic CAPEX and OPEX envelope.
  • The product mix and pricing tier the case can actually sustain.
  • An honest go / no-go, with the reasoning behind it.
  • A reusable model — when conditions change, Manna updates the case rather than rebuilding it.

08 · The first step

Before design and build

It is the first step of the journey, before design, before build, before a single module ships. Validate the case before you invest. The cases that are going to fail are far cheaper to find on a spreadsheet than on a site.
