Treat the waste route as infrastructure before a growth story

A waste project may create revenue without behaving like a high-growth company.

01 · The question

What evidence should earn the next commitment?

That distinction matters before capital is committed.

I would not start with “how fast can this scale?” I would ask: what evidence should earn the next commitment?

02 · Commitments

Stage the commitments

The first commitment should prove the local case: an accessible waste stream, a workable process, realistic commissioning and an output route that can be tested.

The next commitment should follow actual operating evidence, not the utilisation assumed in the original spreadsheet.

Larger capacity should come only when the contracts, operation and economics have earned it.

03 · Capital

The job of the capital

This changes the job of the capital. Each stage funds a defined uncertainty, produces evidence and creates a separate continue, change or stop decision.

Only then would I choose the financing structure for that site. One model will not fit every project, and the return horizon must fit the real ramp.

04 · Rhythm

Prove, operate, then expand

Black soldier fly bioconversion can be a useful mechanism. It does not remove the infrastructure rhythm: prove, operate, then expand.

What evidence would you require before releasing the next stage of capital?
