IFW 2026 Torino — Pre-event teaser

🐛 Manna Insect is heading to IFW 2026 in Turin — and we're taking the data on stage.

01 · The event

IFW 2026 in Turin

The 6th Insects to Feed the World runs 9–12 June at Lingotto, Torino. Our founder Ykä Marjanen presents on the closing morning:

"Critical Business Metrics of BSF Bio-waste Operation — Comparative Analysis Across Developed and Developing Countries"

📍 Fri 12 June, 09:15, Room Lisbona (Session 44), with co-author S. Danubio.

02 · The cases

Three real cases, one framework

The talk takes three real cases — across Europe, Africa and India, two operating and one in planning, 0.5 to 50 t/d — and runs the same business-metrics framework across all of them. Not lab models, and not one country's numbers stretched to fit the world: what the cases actually cost and earn.

03 · Headline numbers

What the abstract already shows

A few headline numbers, already in the published abstract:

  • CAPEX: $25,000–$85,000 per t/d of biowaste capacity
  • OPEX: $20–$50 per tonne of biowaste
  • Frass sells in a similar range regardless of a country's development level
  • Profit without any tipping fee was more likely in developing countries, not less

04 · What it means

Which numbers to validate first

This is the work behind how Manna evaluates whether a BSF biowaste case is worth building — and it starts from the position that BSF does not work everywhere. The value is knowing which numbers to validate first, and how the answer shifts between a cold high-wage market and a warm low-wage one.

Attending IFW? Come to the session, or reach out during the week — we'd like to compare these numbers with what you're seeing on the ground.
